Ways to sign in: password, email code and a sign-in link
Signing in today is email and password, protected by a temporary lockout after five wrong attempts (details β). We're gradually adding two more ways to sign in β and you'll still be able to keep using your password exactly as you do today.
What's being added
- Two-factor sign-in (email code) β after your password, a short code is emailed to you and is valid for a few minutes. Anyone who hasn't turned this on keeps signing in with just a password, as usual.
- Sign-in link (magic link) β instead of typing a password, you request a link by email and click it to sign in. One-time use, and it expires after a short while.
Both are optional, not required, and are mainly for accounts that want an extra layer of security. Once they're enabled for your account you'll see the option right on the sign-in screen and in Settings β no separate app to install.
